ANT-B10 : Angle of Arrival for Accurate Indoor Positioning

Most popular & widely used technique for indoor positioning is Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) but it has many disadvantages. ANT-B10 uses the Angle of Arrival technique instead.

ANT-B10 from u-blox is a BLE 5.1-based compact, 8-element antenna array board which uses the Angle of Arrival technique to accurately do direction finding & indoor positioning.

Disadvantages of Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI):

1. Influence of environmental factors makes reading inconsistent

2. Signal Strength can be weakened by obstacles

3. RSSI value can sometimes become unstable due to wireless transceiver used

4. Dramatic degradation of RSSI in complex multipath environments leads to errors in meters

The ANT-B10 is touted to be the solution to all the above disadvantages of RSSI. So how does it work?

ANT-B10 features the NINA-B411 Bluetooth 5.1 standalone module. It measures the angle of an incoming BLE radio signal with high accuracy using its eight patch-antenna elements in an arrangement that offers optimal performance in the presence of multipath effects, and in conjunction with at least two more ANT-B10 boards and positioning engine software.
