BeagleBone has released a 64 bit High-Performance SBC for developing AI & ML solutions. A better alternative for Raspberry Pi?
BeagleBone AI-64 uses the Texas Instruments Jacinto TDA4VM microprocessor. Its Specs are good:
1. Dual Arm Cortex®-A72 @ 2GHz
2. C7x+MMA (8 TOPS) and 2 C66x floating-point VLIW DSPs
3. 3x dual Arm® Cortex®-R5 co-processors
4. 2x 6-core Programmable Real-Time Unit and Industrial Communication SubSystem
5. PowerVR Rogue 8XE GE8430 3D GPU
6. Accelerated video codecs (2x 1080p30 H.264 encode, 8x 1080p30 H.264/H.265 decode)
On top of this amazing performance, the Board itself have many features:
1. 4GB RAM and 16GB on-board eMMC flash with high-speed interface
2. USB type-C for power and superspeed dual-role controller; and 2x USB superspeed type-A hosts
3. Gigabit Ethernet, M.2 E-key for WiFi/BT expansion
4. miniDisplayPort, 2x 4-lane CSI, DSI
5. Zero-download out-of-box software experience with Debian GNU/Linux
It is a bit pricey at $150, but for specific applications and for performance it seems reasonable. As a general SBC, not so convincing.
